Road Trip to TriStar Studios
Another
amazing evening was had by all those who attended our meeting which was
hosted by TriStar Studios.
John,
Chris and several staff members gave us a great tour of their awesome
space.(Thank
you Phil, Linda, Kevin, Scooter, AJ, Marta....sorry if I forgot
anyone!)
They explained their equipment and what goes into the production
of an effective infomercial (can you say Genie Bra?) as well as all the back
end manufacturing and logistics that are involved in getting a product
to market.
Thank you to the entire TriStar staff for a great time!

2012 Kick-Off Party |
What
an amazing camera!
Well,
we started off our year with a bang!
Thanks so much to
Guenter Noesner from Arriflex who showed us (& let us TOUCH!) their
amazing Alexa camera.
This is the camera
that has become the go-to camera for over 100 TV shows (including
Downton Abbey) and many features (including Hugo)
One
of the cool features is that each camera has a unique serial number
which is embedded in the footage so you can tell which individual
camera shot a particular piece of footage (good if it's ever stolen!)
Basically
it was another great meeting enjoyed by all who attended......this
camera is what dreams are made of :-)

Wrap Party

Our
Wrap Party!
Another great MCA-I
New Jersey year comes to close.
We
have a new board, a new name (we are now the NEW
Jersey Chapter!), but the same mission of being the
organization of those who "tell the story for
hire"
Our
Annual Wrap Party was a blast as the pictures below will show!
While
we DO take our work seriously, we don't take ourselves too seriously!
Join us, won't you?
Outgoing President
Dave Landau's daughter Alex
told
us some fun stories about the Mansion at FDU.
(Did
you know that Florham Park is named after
Florence
Vanderbilt and her husband Hamilton Twombly?)
Outgoing
President Dave Landau shares more stories
about the Mansion at FDU and Florham Park.

Outgoing President
Dave Landau presents
newly elected President Liz de Nesnera (aka "Queen-elect")
with her finery!

Oh yeah...we take
ourselves very seriously!

Incoming
President Liz de Nesnera presents
outgoing
President Dave Landau with a plaque in
appreciation
of all his work

NAB
Wrap Up
What
a fantastic overview of this year's NAB!
Mark
Schubin from SchubinCafe.com has been going to
NAB for over 35 years!
His
insights, pictures, anecdotes and observations made us feel as if we
were there...or what we missed by not being there!
Dave
Landau, our illustrious President, also told us about what he saw in
terms of the industry's direction.
Great overview!

All
About Apple
Thanks
so much to the staff of the Apple Retail Store in
Short Hills
for a great intro to some amazing products.
Thanks
to Peter Becker who talked to us about Garage Band (& gave us great
food advice! :-)
John
Bamber took us one step up to Logic and how to interface with the iPad,
and then Dave
Petersen blew our minds with what iMovie and FinalCut X can do.
Reality
really can be manipulated to look amazing!
Can
you say:"Wow!...I want one of those...and one of those...and...."

The
new Canon C300

Thanks
SO much to Canon & the Staff at ZGC for coming out &
showing us the latest Canon C300 camera.
Those
who were present were thrilled to be able to actually pick it up, a
"play" with it (gently! ;-) and see how amazing it is in low light
& different conditions.
Liz: "Can we turn the lights up yet?"
Howl from the boys & their toys:
"NO!"
It
was a great evening!

Put 'em in the Best Light!
Dave Landau, President of our North Jersey chapter gave a wonderful
presentation all about the nuts & bolts of lighting people
correctly for the effect you want.
Check out Dave's
IMDb listing!
We learned about:
- how lighting can make someone look more honest
(or less so like Marlon Brando in "The Godfather")
- how you should always use soft light on women
- the various forms of light & how to use
them together
- about Diffusion....nose shadows..and that yes,
size matters when you are bouncing light off a wall!
- how lighting one person is different from
lighting two people which is different from lighting inanimate objects
- we also learned about the "3 B's" that are
hardest to light*
All in all it was a fabulous presentation by a real pro.
Thanks Dave!

Bags under eyes :-)
